Well Being Retreat Center - Event
Being Wisely Human
A 4-Night Mindfulness Retreat
with Therese Fitzgerald
August 16-20, 2023
Join us for an immersive experience along the tranquil Powell River,
nestled amid the idyllic Appalachian Mountains. During our time together without the usual distractions, we will delve into a state of profound mindfulness. With the support of our fellow practitioners, the nourishing power of solitude and silence, and the opportunity to open ourselves to new insights, this retreat promises to be a transformative journey of self- discovery and renewal.

Program
For four days, we will practice meditation and mindfulness in community, supported by Well Being Retreat Center's nurturing food and hospitality, forest, fields, and river.
Each day, we’ll practice sitting and walking meditation, eat mindful meals in silence, listen to Dharma talks, engage in small group discussions, and practice mindful movement. Personal interviews with the teacher, Therese Fitzgerald, will be available. There will also be personal time for being in nature, rest, study, and reflection.
Therese’s talks will encourage inquiry and provide guidance for living in balance, with stability, helping us meet life's opportunities and challenges wholeheartedly. Therese will draw on Buddhist teachings on
the "sublime abode" of equanimity and the Four Noble Truths on cultivating conditions that give rise to happiness or suffering.
Beginners and experienced meditators are welcome to join in this program of contemplation and mindful living.
During the retreat, participants will receive instructions in:
-
sitting meditation (posture, conscious breathing)
-
mindful eating
-
Dharma discussion (deep listening, relating the teachings and practices to one's daily life)
-
mindful movement
Check in on Wednesday, August 16, will be at 3 p.m. and the program will end on Sunday, August 20, by 2 p.m. Meals—Wednesday supper through Sunday lunch—will be vegetarian (including organic eggs and
some organic dairy) and are generally gluten-free. Teas, coffee, and snacks are provided throughout. Cabins (but not Cabinettes) have equipped kitchenettes if you have "special" foods you want to bring.
