Well Being Retreat Center - Event

Mindful Living
A 4-Night Mindfulness Retreat
with Therese Fitzgerald
May 15 - 19, 2024

Join us for an immersive experience along the tranquil Powell River, nestled amid the idyllic Appalachian Mountains. During our time together, without the usual distractions, we can dwell a state of profound mindfulness. With the support of fellow practitioners, the nourishing power of solitude and silence, and the opportunity to open ourselves to new insights, this retreat promises to be a transformative journey of self- discovery and renewal.

Program

Each day, we’ll practice sitting and walking meditation, eat mindful meals in silence, listen to Dharma talks, engage in small group discussions, and practice mindful movement. The teacher, Therese Fitzgerald, will be available for personal interviews. There will also be time for being in nature, resting, studying, and reflecting.

Therese will offer Dharma talks around the theme of Right Effort, exploring how we cultivate our minds. This part of the Noble Eightfold Path can help shed light on the ways we make choices that do not serve our own needs or the needs of others. We will study the wisdom of Siddhartha Gautama that can encourage familiar and new aspects of our whole-making journey, as well as discouraging habitual destructive patterns.

During the retreat, participants will receive instructions in:

  • sitting meditation (posture, conscious breathing)

  • mindful eating

  • Dharma discussion (deep listening, relating the teachings and practices to one's daily life)

  • mindful movement

Check in on Wednesday, May 15th, will be at 3 - 5 p.m. and the program will end on Sunday, May 19th, by 2 p.m. Meals—Wednesday supper through Sunday lunch—will be vegetarian (which may include organic eggs and some organic dairy). The meals will be mostly gluten-free and a vegan option will be offered Teas, coffee, and snacks are provided throughout. Cabins (but not Cabinettes) have equipped kitchenettes if you have "special" foods you want to bring.
