"No-Self"

Don by Dana - 600.jpg

Don Oakley will be presenting an online discourse on Zoom Tuesday May 7th at 6:30 pm EDT. These talks are an invitation to look within for yourself at life's most important questions rather than a philosophical exposition. Through this communication medium, we can carefully inquire into the very nature of these questions and ourselves to find the timeless, unchanging essence that we are.

There is no charge or registration requirement to join these presentations which consist of a brief introductory guided meditation, a half hour discourse and time for questions. 1st and 3rd Tuesdays each month.

These talks are non-denominational and are a direct pointing to one's own true nature.

"The concept of “no-self” in Buddhism can sound scary, nonsensical, or just plain weird, but it is one of the three pillars of Buddhist thought. The other two are much more readily understood: the impermanence of living things and the sense of unsatisfactoriness. But no-self? It sounds dangerous to even ponder. What makes it sound dangerous is the belief that we would be giving up everything that we take ourselves to be. But this raises the question about what we believe ourselves to be. We discover that what we give up is a fiction and what is gained is without limit. The only caveat: it’s not personal."

Don Oakley is the author of "It's Time to Wake Up Now: The Top Ten Myths that Can Hijack Spiritual Awakening," a five star rated book on Amazon, and his new book: "Empty Wisdom: The Subtle Art of Becoming What You Already Are."  He is also the Founding Director of Well Being Foundation and a Director of Adyashanti's Open Gate Sangha non-profit organization. Previous talks in this series may be found on Don's YouTube Channel, or on his weekly "Well Being with Don Oakley" podcasts available on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
