Labyrinth

Clearing and Saging the Labyrinth

The Labyrinth at Well Being Retreat Center was the inspiration of the Carolyn Jones' and Jana Kadovitz's Reiki community in Knoxville after being on retreat here.

The inspiration came to fruition during the Memorial Day weekend in May 2018 with the help of more than twenty Reiki practitioners and other volunteers.

During a weekend of intermittent rains, occasional sunshine, weekend-long potluck meals, hard work, and selfless effort, the Labyrinth came into being.

A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools.

Labyrinths originated in ancient Greece, but can also be found embedded in famous Christian Cathedrals such as the Chartres Cathedral in France.

In the Middle Ages the labyrinths were used as a way for people to participate in a pilgrimage without the expense or time required in actually going to another place.
