Music Director Position Available

The Well Being Foundation is seeking an experienced full-time Music Director to develop a music outreach program for Well Being Retreat Center in Tazewell, Tennessee. Well Being Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-denominational, independent organization founded in 1997.Its Mission is to promote harmony with Nature, wellness of body and peace of mind.

The Music Director will be responsible for creating a vibrant and enriching musical environment that aligns with the center’s mission and provides musical and personal growth opportunities for the surrounding population of Claiborne County, Tennessee.  The position of Music Director will contribute to the Foundation’s Mission by engaging in non-denominational community outreach for the purpose of:

 

  • Developing personal confidence, particularly in younger age groups, in a region where it is often lacking;

  • Offer a non-invasive therapeutic modality through group interaction, shared interest, solo and shared public performances, and through musical expression; and

  • Offer a platform for creative opportunity in the economically disadvantaged region of Tennessee in which the Foundation is located.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Artistic Vision: Develop and implement a compelling artistic vision for the music program at the Well Being Retreat Center, in alignment with the Foundation’s mission and intentions

  • Musical Direction: Direct and lead all aspects of the music program, including training local musicians, facilitating performance opportunities, and establishing artistic partnerships within the local community, including Lincoln Memorial University and the Tazewell branch of Walters State Community College

  • Program Development: Plan and develop music programs and events throughout the year, that provide opportunities within Claiborne County, Tennessee that includes all age groups

  • Collaborative Partnerships: Establish and nurture partnerships with local musicians and artists to enhance musical offerings especially in coordination with the artistic community of the Cumberland Gap region of Tennessee

  • Instruction and Education: Develop and oversee music education initiatives, workshops, and classes for all participants of all ages, fostering a love for music, personal confidence, and piano and vocal skills

  • Training of Local Musicians: Train local singers and musicians by providing a nurturing and supportive learning environment where they can express themselves and interact constructively with others

  • Management Task: Manage the business and administrative aspects of the music program, such as budgeting, scheduling, and maintaining records of performance and repertoire

  • Music Technology and Software: Utilize music technology and recording software for teaching and performance purposes

  • Music Theory and Composition: Develop music theory and composition courses suitable for those with varying levels of experience, focusing on how to read and compose music

  • Music Therapy: Explore and implement opportunities for integrating music therapy into Well Being Retreat Center’s programming and outreach, using music as a non-invasive healing modality to enhance the well-being of participants

Educational and Experience Requirements

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Music Education, or a Related Field 

 

Required Experience: A  minimum of 24 months of experience (whether paid or charitable) as a Music Director or a similar role in comparable organizations, with experience in teaching, performing, and leading music groups.

 

Special Skills: Proficiency in vocal training, music composition, conducting small groups with the ability to provide instrumental accompaniment—piano or guitar proficiency preferred
